I would only cross train if you have an impending injury and need an alternative way to work out, or if you just want to mix things up. By the way, my first marathon was a horrible experience. Ran out of gas at mile 18. Literally focused on not passing out/puking for over 5 miles. I'm not sure what you've been doing but I know we tell our athletes don't switch anything up too drastically before a big game aka race. Your body isn't use to it and you'll be sore.
